POWERS: King Tutankhamun, also known as King Tut, was an Egyptian pharaoh who reigned during the 18th dynasty (around 1332-1323 BCE). Although he was not a particularly significant ruler during his lifetime, his tomb, which was discovered in 1922 by British archaeologist Howard Carter, became one of the most significant archaeological discoveries of the 20th century. The discovery of King Tut's tomb provided a wealth of information about the life and culture of ancient Egypt, as well as the funerary practices of the time. The tomb contained a vast array of treasures, including his iconic golden death mask, jewelry, chariots, sculptures, artifacts, as well as everyday objects such as clothing and furniture. These objects not only provided insights into the lavish lifestyle of Egyptian royalty but also helped archaeologists better understand their religious and cultural practices. The tomb was also one of the few that had not been looted by thieves, providing a unique glimpse into the ancient past. The discovery sparked a renewed interest in Egyptology, leading to new discoveries and a greater understanding of ancient Egyptian civilization. Today, King Tut is widely recognized as an important historical figure, and his tomb remains one of the most visited archaeological sites in the world. In addition to the importance of his tomb, King Tut is also significant because he became pharaoh at a young age and ruled for only nine years before his untimely death at around age 18. His reign was relatively unremarkable, but his tomb's discovery made him a household name and sparked a renewed interest in ancient Egyptian history and culture.

His father was likely the pharaoh Akhenaten, who attempted to establish a monotheistic religion centered on the worship of the sun god Aten. King Tut's mother was likely one of Akhenaten's wives, named either Kiya or one of his sisters named Beketaten, though there is some uncertainty about this. King Tut himself is believed to have married his half-sister, Ankhesenamun, who was the daughter of Akhenaten and his principal wife, Nefertiti.
