Canonic Jar, Imsety & Hathor
Turquoise Basalt
ORIGIN: Egypt
POWERS: The canopic jars were the containers used to hold the internal organs which were removed from the dead during the mumification ritual. As organs would cause a body to decompose quickly, they were removed and preserved to be used again when they were reborn in the afterlife. They were often placed in the tomb alongside the mummified body and were considered to be a crucial component of ensuring the deceased's safe journey into the afterlife. Canopic jar lids were represented by the 4 sons of Horus: Hapy, Duamutef, Qebehsenuef, and Imsety each whose role was to protect a specific organ. The four jars were buried with the deceased. *Imsety with a human-head, preserving the liver. *Duamutef with a jackal head, preserving the stomach. *Hapy with the head of the baboon, preserving the lungs. *Qebehsenef with the head of a falcon, preserving the intestines.
